Black Beans!

My first cooking adventure of the new year was actually making Black beans! My good friend Itzelita has been making them for a long time, so I called her up and she taught me over the phone how to make them from scratch. I've been wanting to make them for quite some time, but I just never got to it. . . so here's the recipe!

Ingredients

1 cup dried black beans
4 cups water (if you want to make more beans, use a 1:4 ratio of beans to water)
Onion (use 1/4 an onion per 1 cup beans, or whatever you want really)
Garlic (small spoonful per 1 cup beans)
Oil

Directions

1. Rinse the beans.
2. Add water to crock pot. Add chopped onion. Add garlic. Add oil (I used olive, but you can use canola).
3. Cook on high for 4 hours, or low for 6-8 hours. Keep the beans under 3 inches of water AT ALL TIMES. This will require adding more water throughout the cooking period.
4. Drain beans as much as you'd like after cooking for the allotted time period. They should be soft.
5. Salt beans to taste.

That's it! Super easy. Don't do what I did and add both onion and onion powder. . . just take my word and don't do it. ;)
